As mentioned above the main aim of the Rotary fellowship is that of helping the others and it is in compliance with this fundamental principle that our club has always tried to favour a particular kind of activities. The place where we live, its beauty, the tourism based economy, the unemployment rate which is at a very low level, the geographical position have urged us to concentrate on the problems linked to tourism. We have threfore organized debates, meetings to which we have invited many authorities to speak about enviromental protection ( the protection of sea waters included ), management of territorial resources, strategies for a better use of the routes leading to the peninsula. We have also tried to awaken young people to respect the places where they live and the institutions by awarding a scholarship and organizing vocational guidance courses. Being tourism, as already mentioned, the most profitable industry of this area, we have decided to make the name of Sorrento (not only form the usual point of view, that of its natural beauty, but also from a cultural and historic aspect) more and more famous all arouund the world. To this purpose and in order to get in touch with interesting and different reallities, we have organized international meetings into which, young people and adutls coming form abroad, have taken part. Furthermore, as "service" is our main activity, we have supported and cooperated with some philantropic organizations working in this area. |
